GEOLOGICAL SETTING
The property is located to the east of the Mount McGerrigle felsic rock intrusive. This intrusive is
younger than both the basalt that underlies the northwest portion of the property and the grey calcareous
siltstone rock assemblage that underlies the southeastern portion of the property. This intrusive is
thought to be part of a mineralizing event that resulted in a number of base and precious metal occurrences
present within the region.
The Lac Des Pics claim area covers a northeast - southwest contact of basalt and siltstone. This zone
is relatively narrow (variable from 100 to 300 meters wide) and consists of an assemblage of feldspathic
quartz conglomerate beds with interlayered black shale and volcanic tuffs. Copper, gold and silver
mineralization are presently known to exist at occurrences distributed for approximately three kilometres
along this contact area. This contact may be faulted and appears to have acted as a weak zone for
mineralized solutions to invade, to form veins and to disseminate into the basalt and adjacent sedimentary
rocks.
The Noranda's Gaspe Copper mine and smelter complex, closed a few years ago, is located about 25
kilometers east of the Lac Des Pics property. Past producers such as Madeline Mines, located just
northwest, and the Federal Mine (now being explored by Threegold Resources Inc.) are located within the
region.
