Douglas Smith (Director and Chief Financial Officer).
Mr. Smith has worked as a senior advisor for a number of publicly listed companies over the past five years, during which time he has both drafted and overseen the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and worked with independent auditors to ensure timely and accurate financial disclosures. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Commerce (specializing in finance) from the University of Alberta, from which he graduated in 1983. Mr. Smith also obtained his Bachelor of Laws at the University of British Columbia in 2000. He is currently a Chartered Accountant in the Province of British Columbia, and is also a member in good standing of the Law Society of BC. Mr. Smith was employed by Ernst & Young from 1983-1992, initially as a staff accountant and eventually as a tax manager. He subsequently worked as a taxation manager with Nexus Engineering Corp., before starting his own accounting practice in 1993. His practice initially focussed on financial accounting for small businesses and personal and corporation tax matters. Since graduating from UBC Law, his practice has increasingly involved financial accounting and reporting for public companies. He has also provided corporate law services as part of his professional practice since 2002.
